Best Breast Vest

Best Breast Vest is a startup external breast prosthesis clothing business that needed help making their Shopify into a functional e-commerce site when I worked for Communitech.

Website Changes

Shopify Theme Change
My team’s main priority was to launch an eCommerce store that was completely functional and can process sales without technical problems. A close second priority was to enhance the client’s story through their website. With that in mind, it was important to change the original theme of the site to one that better suited their needs. Many Breast Cancer survivors lose
feeling in their fingertips, knowing that – it was essential to our clients to ensure that the website was easy to access, with minimal clicks needed in order to purchase a vest. By adding a “shop now” button at the beginning of the site, enabled customers to go directly to the product page.

Along with altering the theme, we also sorted out; the typography, colour scheme, as well as added various pictures, and videos to ensure the product was correctly projected to potential consumers. It was a challenge because we had to request and rely on photos sent by clients.

Per client request, we also added photos showing the product under numerous lighting conditions to show a range of potential shades for them. The consumer knows that what they see online may not reflect the actual physical product’s colour

Fixed the Site Navigation and Footer
We focused on making our client’s new site simple and easy to use. For us, this meant the better organization of information, with easy-to-read titles that everyone would understand at a glance. We made sure to keep it minimal, with only essential pages.

Setup Taxes, Shipping, and Fulfilled Test Orders
We had to acquire the client’s BN in order to set up tax collection for the regions their registration code covers (Canada). We also had to research the guidelines for collecting tax in the US and when it is necessary to have an economic nexus. Since they don’t meet the sales threshold to need a nexus with certain states, they don’t have to worry about collecting tax in the US for now. We explained the process of how you go about doing business with international or American buyers (i.e., printing customs forms along with the shipping label).

Once their Shopify was put in the test-payment mode, we used Shopify’s phony credit numbers to simulate transactions. We inputted addresses from all over the world to see the functionality of the checkout process. For example, If the fake buyer is Canadian, we look to see if the HST or GST taxes are built in the price based on the region. Or if they are from another country, it should have no taxes being added to the price. After test orders were submitted we completed the process of creating and buying a shipping label which created a tracking number. With that, we made sure the order updates were being submitted to the customer’s email (our emails).

In terms of shipping, we removed priority rates and other country rates since they have a $15 flat rate for worldwide shipping. Once that was set up, we tested to see that the shipping rate was generated at checkout.

Setup Google Analytics
We helped the client create a Google Analytics account. This will help them in the future to gather data and information in regards to their consumers and the traffic they receive on their website. This can better help them understand when it is best to post on various social media platforms, etc.

Google recently launched GA-4, and recommended that all new businesses use it instead of UA (the previous version of Analytics). However, Shopify has not yet updated its platform to integrate with GA-4. As a result, it took us considerable effort to implement GA-4 into theme.liquid directly (which was, to our knowledge, currently the only way to use GA-4 for google at the moment).

Created Cart Note Section
We implemented a requirement to add text to the cart note in order to validate the checkout (added JS). We modified HTML on the cart page so we could ask customers if they have “correctly
measured themselves” before checking out. We also added additional HTML by including questions in the cart note asking for cup size, mastectomy side, etc., followed by an answer box with modified CSS. This was essential to the clients to minimize the need for returns in the future. Along with that, we added a reminder banner in the header so customers would remember to measure themselves while browsing the site. Lastly, a reminder was included in the product description.

Added a Post-Checkout Survey
Our team added a post-checkout survey to our client’s website. This was to ensure the clients had the ability to ask consumers their thoughts on the website’s functionality and the product itself.

Setup Apple Business Chat and Shopify Ping
We helped set up both of these applications to ensure the clients are able to have communication with consumers who have any questions or concerns in regards to the product. By doing this, we were able to ensure all messages would go directly to the client’s phones to ensure a quick response time. Though Apple Business Chat set up can only be finalized after the store has launched and the password has been disabled, this is the client’s responsibility.

Added Videos for Correct Sizing
It was crucial to the clients that the sizing of the vests was properly displayed to consumers. Along with the sizing chart, in both inches and centimetres, we added videos of how to measure oneself, hopefully minimizing returns. A second video was also created to help consumers properly add/remove breast padding.

Improved Website SEO and Alt Text
We utilized an SEO improvement excel spreadsheet in order to plan our improvements and keyword research. We researched using Google Keyword Planner and Keyword Surfer to find low competition and high traffic keywords that would fit in the H1 and meta description section when searched for on a web browser. After the research was done, we started planning how we would implement these changes to each page, in addition to the alt text we would add to the images. The spreadsheet has a conditional formatting setting that allows for a character count that turns red when you have gone over the limit. This is to stay within proper SEO writing guidelines in order to be indexed by Google and so that the site map is easy to understand. After all that was completed, we made the changes to the published site pages and added alt text to the images.

We provided the clients with speedy: Communication, Education, and Support
We responded to clients’ emails frequently, as a group, and even as individuals (they emailed many of us individually depending on their particular needs).
